Things to Remember in the Morning

I am grateful for each fresh new morning. I love the fog coming up from the river, the wildflowers blooming along the road, and the early morning sweatshirt weather God has sent us lately.

Yet, in the midst of those blessings, I dread my first morning glimpses at the news. I long for more people to share what is right and good, instead of what is wrong and hurtful.

For the last couple of days, Psalm 67 has been a comforting antidote to the negative news.

  • It speaks of God being gracious to us and blessing us, of His causing His face to shine upon us.
  • It tells of His way being known on the earth and His salvation among all nations.
  • It speaks of people praising Him.
  • It tells of nations being glad and singing for joy.
  • It speaks of God guiding the nations on the earth.
  • It tells of God blessing us so that all of the ends of the earth may fear Him.

Now that is what I like to remember in the morning!

God be gracious to us and bless us,
And cause His face to shine upon us—
That Your way may be known on the earth,
Your salvation among all nations.
Let the peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.
Let the nations be glad and sing for joy;
For You will judge the peoples with uprightness
And guide the nations on the earth.
Let the peoples praise You, O God;
Let all the peoples praise You.
The earth has yielded its produce;
God, our God, blesses us.
God blesses us,
That all the ends of the earth may fear Him.
Psalm 67
