Let the Little Children Come

Recently as I sat in church, I noticed a little boy about three years old in a pew in front of me. He leaned his head on a lady whom I assumed to be his mother. I didn’t see her pull him close or encourage him in any way. A little later I saw her pull him toward her, but the move looked somehow like discipline rather than an embrace.

Perhaps the situation was different from the way it appeared to me. I hope that the little boy was not learning that his affection brought no positive response and that only mischievous behavior gave him close physical contact with his mother.

As Ray and I walked the halls of the Missouri state capitol on Wednesday, we saw this door.

That’s it. That’s just what we want to hear from everyone we love. That’s just what our children and others want to hear from us. “Welcome into my life, into my arms, and into my heart. Please come in.”

That’s what God always says.

Opening his mouth, Peter said:
“I most certainly understand now that
God is not one to show partiality,
but in every nation the man who fears Him
and does what is right is welcome to Him.
