With a grateful heart . . .

Many months ago I got an email with the words, “With a grateful heart,” before the person’s name. I was so touched by it that now “With a grateful heart” is one of my favorite ways to sign emails. I have so much for which to be grateful. I needed that reminder.

We had two days at home in between our trip to attend our nephew’s promotion and our trip to see John, Henry, and Audra. Monday was was one of those super busy days–phone calls, bathroom remodeling decisions, laundry, our Monday Notgrass Company lunch meeting, work on our new 5-8 world history we are developing . . . Whew! I know you understand, because your days are like that, too; it’s just our details that vary.

Late in the afternoon, I told Ray, “I’m going out in the front yard to snap a few pictures.” It was a nice break from the busyness. Look at the scene God painted across the road.

I am blessed with rooms to remodel, clothes to wash, work to do, and the beauty across the road.

Our minister was out of town on that Sunday in between our trips. Ray preached in his place. The topic Ray chose was gratitude. The main text for the lesson was the story of the lepers Jesus healed in Luke 17 when ten were healed but only one said, “Thank you.”

Gratitude is one of the most important lessons you can teach your children. What a joyous life your child can have if you will help him learn how to have a grateful heart.

Now one of them,
when he saw that he had been healed, turned back,
glorifying God with a loud voice,
and he fell on his face at His feet,
giving thanks to Him.
And he was a Samaritan.
Luke 17:15-16

  1. Gratitude naturally flows from a heart of humility. Humility flows from a correct understanding of the true nature of our hearts. And we find that correct understanding in God’s Word. What an excellent way to start the school week. Thank you, Charlene, for my morning devotional. 😉
